Vets for Birds, Reptiles and Small Pets in Dubai: How to Find One (2026)

Most Dubai clinics treat dogs and cats. If you have a parrot, a tortoise, a rabbit or a fish, here is how to find someone who can actually treat it, what to ask before you go, and what to do in an emergency.

Why this is harder than finding a vet for a dog

Dubai has hundreds of veterinary clinics and almost all of them are built around dogs and cats. Exotic species, which in veterinary terms means birds, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, fish and anything else that is not a dog or a cat, need different equipment, different drug doses and different training.

A clinic will rarely say it cannot treat your animal until you are standing at the counter. Some will accept a rabbit and treat it competently. Some will accept a parrot and do their best with a species they have seen twice.

So the question to ask is never "do you treat birds". It is "how many birds do you see in a week, and who is the vet that sees them".

What to ask before you book

Which vet at the clinic sees this species, and are they in on the day I can come? Exotic work usually sits with one person, not the whole clinic.

How many of these do you see in a month? A number tells you more than a yes.

Do you have the equipment for this species? For birds and reptiles that usually means a scale that reads in grams, an incubator or heated cage, gas anaesthesia suitable for small bodies, and x-ray.

Can you do the basic diagnostics in house, or is everything sent out? Waiting three days for a result matters more in a 90 gram bird than in a 30 kilo dog.

What does a first consultation cost, and what would a night of hospitalisation cost? Ask before, not after.

If they cannot take your animal, ask who they refer exotics to. A clinic that knows the answer is telling you something useful.

What we can point you to in Dubai

Parrot Veterinary Clinic in Al Safa lists itself as an exclusive clinic for pet birds, and is rated 4.9 from 121 Google reviews at the time of writing. If you have a bird, start there.

For reptiles, rabbits and rodents we do not yet have a clinic in our directory that we can confidently say specialises in them, and we would rather tell you that than send you somewhere on a guess. What we do have is every veterinary clinic in Dubai with its phone number, area and hours, at onepasspet.com/dubai/vet, which makes the calling round quick: start with the larger hospitals and the ones near you, and ask the questions above.

If you find a vet in the UAE who treats exotics well, tell us at hello@onepasspet.com and we will list them properly. That request is how this page gets better.

For fish, the aquarium shops are often the first useful call, particularly the long established ones in Karama, Deira and Satwa. They will not treat a sick fish, but they know water chemistry, and most aquarium problems are water problems.

What to do in an emergency

Small animals hide illness until they cannot. By the time a bird is sitting fluffed at the bottom of the cage or a reptile has stopped moving, it is usually urgent.

Call before you drive. An emergency clinic that cannot treat your species will still take your money for a consultation and then tell you to come back in the morning.

Keep the animal warm and dark on the way in. For most small birds and reptiles, heat is the single most useful thing you can provide while you arrange care, and cold is what kills them in a car with the air conditioning on full.

Bring the enclosure or a photograph of it. For reptiles especially, the setup itself, its temperature and its lighting, is often the diagnosis.

Dubai clinics that list 24 hour care are at onepasspet.com/emergency-vet. Confirm on the phone that they can see your species before you set off.

Frequently asked questions

Do exotic pets need to be registered with Dubai Municipality? The registration and microchipping requirement that applies to cats and dogs does not work the same way for other species, and rules on which animals may be kept at all are separate again. Check your species with Dubai Municipality on 800900 before you buy.

Which animals are not allowed as pets in the UAE? Wild and dangerous animals are restricted by federal law, and the list is not something to take from a blog. Confirm the current position with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment before acquiring any unusual species.

My rabbit or guinea pig is unwell. Is a normal vet fine? Many small mammal problems are treated competently by a general practice, particularly dental and gut issues, but ask first how often they see them. Rabbits deteriorate quickly and are not small dogs.

Can a vet that treats dogs prescribe for my bird? Drug doses for birds are not scaled down dog doses, and several common medicines are dangerous to them. That is exactly why the question above matters.

Where can I find every vet clinic in Dubai? At onepasspet.com/dubai/vet, with ratings, phone numbers and opening hours from each clinic's public Google profile.
