How Many Hours a Day Can You Walk a Dog in Dubai? A Month by Month Count (2026)
A year of hourly Dubai temperatures, counted into walkable hours. In January every hour of the day is under 32C. In August almost none are.

The number that matters
Dubai's summer is usually described in daily highs, which tells a dog owner very little. The useful question is how many hours in a day are cool enough to take a dog out at all.
We counted them. Using a full year of hourly temperature readings for Dubai, here is how many hours a day sit below 32C, which is the point where most guidance in the Gulf turns from "go early" to "do not go".
January: 24.0 hours a day February: 24.0 March: 23.3 April: 21.6 May: 15.8 June: 9.5 July: 4.6 August: 1.8 September: 9.2 October: 17.0 November: 23.3 December: 24.0
In August the average day has under two hours below 32C, and they are not reliably in the same place on the clock. That is the month where walking becomes a 5am decision or no decision at all.
When those hours actually fall
Hours that were below 32C on at least four days out of five, by month:
January, February, December: all day March: all day except the hour after midday April: before 11am and after 5pm May: before 9am and after 7pm June: 1am to 8am July: 6am to 7am August: no hour of the day clears the bar on four days out of five September: 1am to 8am October: before 10am and after 7pm November: all day except the early afternoon
The middle of the year does not just get hotter, it loses the evening. In April you can still walk after work. By June the evening is gone and only the early morning is left, and in August even that goes.
Air temperature is the optimistic number
Everything above is air temperature in the shade. The ground your dog walks on is hotter, and on a summer afternoon asphalt in the Gulf can sit far above the air reading. We have not measured pavement temperatures ourselves, so we are not going to publish a figure for them.
The test that works without instruments: press the back of your hand to the pavement and hold it there. If you cannot keep it there for seven seconds, your dog should not be standing on it.
Grass, sand and shaded paving are all cooler than asphalt. So is a car park at 6am compared with the same car park at 6pm, because concrete holds heat long after the air has started to drop.
Dogs with short noses, old dogs and heavy coated breeds lose this margin faster than the table suggests. So does any dog that has just arrived from a cooler country and has not acclimatised.
What owners do instead in July and August
Walks move to before sunrise, and the evening walk becomes a toilet break rather than exercise.
Indoor exercise replaces distance: stairs in the building, fetch down a corridor, food puzzles, training sessions that tire a dog mentally.
Daycare and indoor play spaces fill up for exactly this reason, which is why their summer is busy while their winter is quiet.
Swimming, where a community allows it, does more for a dog in twenty minutes than a hot walk does in an hour.
And the practical one: check the pavement, not the forecast. A 39C day at 6am and a 39C day at 6pm are not the same walk.
Method
Source: hourly 2 metre air temperature for Dubai (25.20N, 55.27E) from the Open-Meteo historical archive, covering 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, in local time.
"Walkable hours" counts hours with an air temperature below 32C, averaged across the days of each month. The windows in the second section list hours that cleared that bar on at least 80 percent of the days in the month.
32C is a threshold we chose as the point where local advice shifts to avoiding walks, not a regulation. A fit young dog may be fine above it; a flat faced or elderly dog may not be fine well below it.
One year of data describes one year. Hot years run hotter.
If you quote these figures, please include the period and the threshold, because both change the answer. Our live version of this, which uses today's forecast rather than last year's average, is the walk index on onepasspet.com.
